Fanø Bryghus: Evil Twin Noma Oxalis
This New World pale ale is/was brewed by Fanø Bryghus in Copenhagen, Denmark. It's achieved an overall score of 45.8%. Based on 1 tasting, the average ABV is 5.50%.
Inspired by their successful 35K recipe, Against the Grain Brewery creates an ambitious double imperial milk stout that elevates it to new standards. Promising an intensive and sophisticated drinking experience, this strong beer has a 13.1% ABV and 48 IBUs. The beer has been aged in Angel's Envy bourbon barrels for a long time to accentuate its already rich profile even more.
With a mocha-coloured head that gradually disappears, 70K pours a rich, impenetrable black suggesting its full-bodied character. With subdued overtones of vanilla, oak and dark fruits, the scent is an appealing mix of roasted malts, dark chocolate, and bourbon. The aroma gets more complicated as the beer warms, showing layers of caramel, toffee and a trace of coffee.
On the tongue, it presents a symphony of tastes worthy of its fragrant promise. Strong roasted malt and rich chocolate aromas predominate in the first taste, offset by the lactose's sweetening ability. The bourbon barrel ageing adds flavours of vanilla, wood and a warming bourbon character that accentuates the strong basis of the beer. Though it has a lot of alcohol, 70K keeps a smooth, creamy mouthfeel with a well-attenuated finish that blends sweetness with a subdued bitterness from the roasted malts. Offering a sumptuous, full-flavored experience that pushes the envelope of what a milk stout can be, this imperial stout is evidence of Against the Grain's brewing mastery.
