Born from a three-headed collaboration between Stone Brewing’s Greg Koch, actor-nerd-icon Wil Wheaton, and Fark.com’s Drew Curtis, this imperial stout doesn’t just wear its geek credentials on its sleeve, it barrel-ages them in bourbon and pours them into a snifter. It’s as bold in flavour as it is in concept: think pecans, wheat and a mighty roasted malt backbone, all wrapped in a boozy warmth that could probably power the Enterprise.

At a hefty 11.5%, this beast pours jet black with a tan head that sticks around like a loyal dungeon party cleric. Expect deep notes of chocolate, coffee and vanilla from the bourbon barrels, with just enough nuttiness to keep things interesting. It’s rich, it’s chewy, and it doesn’t care if you’re pairing it with a cheese board or a late-night coding session, though frankly it’s probably best savoured slowly, with something indulgent. Maybe a slab of pecan pie. Or a rewatch of Firefly.

The annual editions have become a bit of a tradition now, each with slightly tweaked recipes and ever-quirkier label art, often featuring Wheaton in heroic, mythic poses. It’s a beer for collectors, drinkers, and dreamers, equal parts craft, character and comic-con.
