A 2001 bottle of this shared by my friend David Noble was a very delectable treat. An amber brown hue and small lustrous head was the precedent for a quite sweet brown sugary taster. Prevalent alcohol aroma combined with earthy sweetness and sharp fruity edge made this beer a great once in a lifetime refreshment.
I reached for this beer to quench my thirst will eating popcorn and I almost spit this thing out. However, I read the description and got hip to North Coasts intent and found myself enjoying this syrupy sweet licorice bitterbarleywine-like beer as I sipped my way to the bottom.
Brown sugar, dark fruit, toffee, molasses, bourbon and caramel nose. Very complex candy and fruit palate with mild fruit and nuts notes and a slight almost coconut note. Lingering vanilla forward finish.
