Historical Community Tasting Notes

Appearance: Pours a dark golden amber with a tight, white 1/4 cap of foam. Aroma: Toffee, coconut and booze. Taste: Wood, caramelized grapes, red apple, spicy hops and bourbon. Mouthfeel: Very fizzy and full bodied. A tad creamy even. Overall: I like regular Fred better. This didnt go down easy for me. I know its designed to be a complex sippe
Poured golden with a thick white head. Good thickness. Aroma of courant, caramel, honey and white wine. Quite yeasty for a Barley Wine. Taste was very smooth but a bit too syrupy. I would think it was an American Strong Ale but the maltiness suggests otherwise. Palate was smooth with quite a bit of sugar. Overall very good.
UPDATED: OCT 28, 2006 Bottle from bockeyhorsy. Pours orange with ncie diminishing white head. Some lacing. Aroma of alcohol, hops, caramel. Intense sweet and malty flavor, nicely balanced by a spicy hop kick. Finish is dry, sweet, and warming. Another great beer from HOTD. I wish it was easier for me to get.
This poured a semi cloudy yellow to orange with a large offwhite head. Aroma was dark fruits, oak, bourbon, and caramel. Flavor was sily smooth caramel and toffee barleywine flavors, some fruitness too, blanketed by bourbon oak and vanilla. Excellent stuff.
Style, schmyle - this is a great beer. Huge malt backbone with complex hops leading the way. Thick, rich head giving way to complexity going beyound the typical Am. barleywine. American funk without going to belgian yeast.
Bottle. Cant remember where I opened it. Orange poyr with almost no head. Although not a still pour. Sweet malts, including sugars and some vanilla, oak and bourbon from the barreling over coming the normal fred flavors.
