Historical Community Tasting Notes

Preserved from the RateBeer community archive (circa 2000–2018)

Picked this up at the Kenny Rd. market near my house where they have the commonsense to keep it somewhat out of the light, so I had no skunk issues like so many others seem to have. Which is too bad, because this was one of my favorite holiday offerings this year. A sweet carmelish aroma gives way to a simlar flavor, with perhaps some candied fruit
Uninspired pour, well carbonated but just didnt have the aroma of a winter beer. Strong ale at 6% does not seem strong to me. Mild flavors of malt and slight spice, almost like second runnings of some other strong ales out there. Very thin mouthfeel, just not alot here to recommend.
Very pleasant dark winter ale with balanced caramel and spice on top of the base maltiness. Full enough body with subtle aroma. Need to pick a sample that has been exposed to the least light as this one is quite susceptible to skunking.
