The Garage Project: Aunt Sally's Slice of Sunshine

This sour IPA is/was brewed by The Garage Project in Wellington, New Zealand. It's achieved an overall score of 68.95%. Based on 1 tasting, the average ABV is 4.80%.

An ambitious Imperial Stout showcasing the Norwegian brewery's ability to create sophisticated, flavourful brews, Lervig's Toasted Maple Stout is a rich and strong drinking experience, with its 12% ABV and 50 IBUs. It pours an impenetrable black with an oily viscosity, capped with a brief, frothy brown foam that rapidly disappears.

This stout smells like an appealing mixture of sweet and roasting flavours. Familiar maple syrup aroma mix with coffee, dark chocolate and fudgy dark malt. Subtle undertones of honey, vanilla, and dried fruits surface as the beer warms, producing a sophisticated and inviting scent suggesting the flavours to come.

Toasted Maple Stout tastes on the mouth as a well belanced blend of flavours. Robust presence of roasted malts and dark chocolate balance the sweetness of maple syrup and caramel. Notes of coffee, vanilla and a little nuttiness give the flavour profile complexity. The beer keeps a smooth, full-bodied mouthfeel with a well-attenuated finish that blends sweetness with a subdued bitterness from the roasted malts despite its strong alcohol content. Though not overwhelming, the maple influence is noticeable and lets the other flavours really come through. For fans of rich, flavourful stews, this Imperial Stout highlights Lervig's mastery in creating sophisticated, dessert-like brews that provide a sumptuous drinking experience.
