BRLO: Dark Matter

This Comet Opal export stout is/was brewed by BRLO in Berlin, Berlin, Germany. It's achieved an overall score of 61.48%. Based on 1 tasting, the average ABV is 5.00%.

Celebrating Christmas with a strong 13% ABV, Brouwerij Kees' "Here's To A Jolly Holiday" is a festive barley wine. This unique seasonal release sets the mood for a rich and sophisticated sipping experience by pouring a deep ruby to dark amber colour with a light brown head.

This barley wine smells like a friendly mix of Christmassy aroma. There are notes of caramel, toffee and coconut with hints of vanilla, cinnamon and orange candy. Subtle variations of malt and molasses surface as the beer warms, producing a rich and seductive scent that promises a warm, festive taste character.

On the tongue, it has a complex character. A strong malty backbone balances the caramel's and coconut's initial sweet taste. Notes of vanilla, cinnamon and a little orange zest give the flavour profile richness and complexity. The beer keeps a smooth, full-bodied mouthfeel with a well-balanced finish that combines sweetness with a subdued bitterness despite its high alcohol content. The addition of oats and Sabro hops help to give it as creamy texture and distinctive taste character. This barley wine is evidence of Kees' ability to create sophisticated, festive beers with opulence and warmth ideal for Christmas.
