Ok I had to check my palate after giving St Arnolds divine reserve such low scores.I thought I would try this as its quality has always been good and a favorite english style barley wine of mine.Pours coppery brown with a off white head.Nice malty aroma with some caramel and fruitiness.Taste is smooth a nice blend of malt , alcohol and subtle hops.
UPDATED: APR 10, 2009 Pours a dark Mahogany with fluffy head. Not your typical BW. Nose is brown sugar & malty, with a mineral persuasion. Flavor is the same, with more emphasis on the malt, with some caramel, molasses, and brown sugar. Although the alcohol is low for a barleywine this was a very pleasing brew.
The aroma does not do this beer justice. The appearance is rather nice, what I would expect from a barley wine. Flavor is really good, although weak on alcohol, strong on flavor. Nice malt and spice taste to it. Good entry level barley wine.
