More than just a beer - it’s their annual “birthday bottle,” a splendidly complex celebration of the brewery’s creative spirit. Each year, the brewers orchestrate a blending day where barrels aged with the previous year’s brew are topped off with fresh beer, using a solera‑style method that boosts depth and keeps the legacy alive. Maiden was the very first beer Siren ever made, starting in 2013, and the tradition continued strong into 2024 and beyond.
The 2024 vintage clocked in at 10 % ABV and pours with a deep, almost ruby-red glow. The inner alchemy of flavours come from an eclectic blend of barrels, i.e. rum, tequila, rye whiskey, bourbon, red wine, Banyuls, port and cognac, and of course a healthy splash of fresh beer to keep things lively.
Aromas of brioche, oily orange zest and coconut set the stage, setting expectations for something rich, fruity, and warmly inviting. On the palate, expect a whole heap of flavour, from spicy wood to fruitcake to vanilla - a lovely caramel warmth from bourbon casks and a faint minerality creeping through, reflecting that crafty fresh‑beer backbone. Then, just when things begin to feel too rich, a clean, fresh bitterness swoops in to reset everything.
