Bang the Elephant: Benjo Bironga
This Brazillian-style lime gose is/was brewed by Bang the Elephant in Langley Mill, Derbyshire, England. This one is currently on deck amongst my huge collection of beers yet to have over the coming weeks, months and years.
Strawberry, Lime & Pineapple Twister is a 6% ice-cream sour from Yonder, inspired by the colourful spiral lolly of the same name.
It pours a thick, hazy pink-orange, with a nose of ripe strawberry, juicy pineapple and sharp citrus. The strawberry lays down a sweet, jammy foundation, with tropical pineapple behind it and a bright squeeze of lime on top.
The body is smooth and creamy – unmistakably dessert territory. The acidity is lively enough to keep the fruit and sweetness in check, while the lime adds a clean, refreshing edge to the finish.
This is not a subtle or traditional sour. It's closer to a melted fruit lolly turned into alcohol – but the flavours work remarkably well together.
Sweet, tangy and gloriously playful, it's an entertaining fruit sour that delivers exactly what the name promises.
