The Trums have done an excellent job on this one -- just enough smokiness to dominate; not too much to cover up the estery character of a true Weizenbier. One of the Trum family told me they only smoke the Barley malt, which explains the subtler smoke character of this member of a very special family of beers.
Brown cloudy color; head retention is good; lots of meat and jerky in the nose. The flavors were much more restrained in this Rauch then a few others that I have had and that was very welcome. A whole bottle might be hard to get through, but I could share this with somebody.
When did they come up with this? Not as smokey as the Marzen or Bock. Awesome beer for lovers of Weizen and smoked beers.
