Poured a pretty golden color, lots of exciting yeasty chunks floating about. Creamy smooth white head that remains in a thin veneer. Aroma is of bitter orange peel, and some faint mustiness. Complex, layered flavor, more oranges, wheatish malts, and a whiff of smoke on the finish. A very pleasant surprise from a beer I knew nothing about.
I must try this again, as the festive nature of the time I tried it might have clouded my judgment. This is big, bold and fruity with a ton of alcohol that has the courtesy to allow the amazing tropical fruit flavors to shine. Must revisit.
Another one from those trappists. I thought this a bit lighter on the malty tones than most other belgians I have had. It had a long lasting head and nice tongue feel on the back of my tongue.
