Van Honsebrouck: Bacchus Frambozenbier
This fruit beer is/was brewed by Van Honsebrouck in Ingelmunster, West Flanders, Belgium. It's achieved an overall score of 61.47%. Based on 2 tastings, the average ABV is 5.00%.
A beautifully crafted fruit beer that builds on Van Honsebrouck’s traditional Oud Vlaams Bruin base. Clocking in at around 5% ABV, this raspberry-infused brew is elegantly bottled in a tissue-wrapped 37.5 cl format, a nod to Belgian presentation standards. Inside, you'll find a harmonious blend of the rich, malty brown ale, enlivened by a generous dose of real raspberries, around 12.5% worth of them, adding colour and authenticity.
Pouring a deep amber-red with a creamy, white-topped head, it has an inviting aroma packed with fresh raspberry, blackberry and blueberry alongside just a touch of caramel sweetness . The palate continues this, with medium-full body velvety carbonation, balanced between sweet fruit and gentle tartness, finishing semi-dry and clean, so the raspberry character shines without feeling overly cloying.
The brewery’s care is clear: this is fruit beer taken seriously, not a gimmick. The tart-sweet balance makes it refreshing yet substantial, ideal as an aperitif, paired with creamy cheeses or light desserts, or simply sipped on its own. It’s no surprise this raspberry twist on Oud Bruin earned recognition, including a silver award at the World Beer Awards in 2023.
