I tend to like Lagunitas. Find them "unsophisticated" very often and keep going back to see what it is that makes me think that. Guess they are near the target, but not on the mark for being a superior product. And I guess I would add that I'm inferior for not being able to note exactly what it is that I'm saying. This beer is a move in the right d

Aroma is mostly hops, ruby red/copper color, normal minimal head for a barleywine. Flavor is quite smooth, no harsh alcohols and nicely balanced malts and bitters. Mouthfeel is quite thick, coats my throat. Overall a very drinkable barleywine but nothing really jumps out at me to impress me. Just all around very smooth, finely brewed beer.

UPDATED: FEB 24, 2004 Pours a clear amber/red. Really clear for a barley wine. It smells of citrus hops and a little malt. There are a lot of hops in this one. But they go well with the malt. I cant wait to taste this batch next year.
