Historical Community Tasting Notes

Preserved from the RateBeer community archive (circa 2000–2018)

A Scotch Ale? This is easily the best scotch ale I have ever had. The pour is brown with a tall bubbly, soapy head. The aroma is spicy and raisany. There is plenty of sparkling carbonation. Quite refreshing and very good at clearing the palate. No lingering aftertaste or film in my mouth like I have experienced with cheaper scotch ales I have
Appearance: dark red/amber color, a nice full rocky, tan head--lively and effervescent. Good head retention and a resilient lace. Aroma: spicy, cloves, and alcohol. The taste is complex: creamy and somewhat sweet, but not overpowering. The taste seems to change and develop more character in the middle and toward the finish. Very drinkable beer.
Not as great as Chouffe Nce, but still a real good ale,..why is it grouped as "A scotch ale"?? Dark and sweet, not as many aromas as expected, but still good.
