Historical Community Tasting Notes

Preserved from the RateBeer community archive (circa 2000–2018)

500ml Can: Pours pitch black with a dull tint of red; bubbly, light tan head that was gone quickly. Aroma of sour caramel, caught a small amount of hops, odd for a dark beer. Flavour comes through with a heavy roast and bright chocolate, an excellent blend of sweet and malty bitter. The hops come through in the taste as well, with a dry mouthfee
Draft as a dark pour with tan lasting head. Nose is lageryeast and chocolate. Coffee and sweetmalts com eout. Flavour is umami, bread, and somewhat enigmatic. possibly willamette hopping. Mouth is quite chewy with a watery clean finish.
Pitch black pour with a tan head that fades quickly. Flavour of slightly bitter chocolates and hops with a dry finish. As with most schwarzbiers it dark in colour, but not heavy like a stout. A winning combination in my books.
