Voodoo Brewing Co., which began in Pennsylvania in 2005 and expanded across several U.S. states, has confirmed that its Plano, Texas taproom and brewery will close. The news came via a social media post on September 30, 2025, in which Voodoo expressed deep regret, stating that the decision was made with “heavy hearts.” The location had opened only about a year earlier, as part of Voodoo’s growth push in Texas.
The closure underscores the contraction many breweries are facing. Despite its aggressive expansion, Voodoo acknowledged that the Plano site struggled to hit financial targets in a competitive market.
Voodoo still operates in other Texas cities, including College Station, Lewisville, and Prosper, the latter having opened in August 2025. The brewery emphasized that the shutdown is localized to Plano.
Industry watchers note that 2024 saw more U.S. brewery closures than new openings for the first time in decades. Rising costs (raw materials, packaging and labour), shifting consumer preferences, and increased competition from alternative beverages (such as hard seltzers and RTDs) are often cited as key pressures.
Some in the industry believe Voodoo’s retrenchment may signal a recalibration, refocusing on core markets, optimising taproom locations and limiting overextension. Whether this is an isolated adjustment or part of a broader downsizing trend remains to be seen.
