Historic Anchor Inn in Digbeth Reopens Under New Management

The Anchor Inn, a historic Grade II-listed pub in Digbeth, Birmingham, has reopened this summer under new ownership.

Nestled in the heart of Digbeth, Birmingham, The Anchor Inn, a historic pub dating to 1797 and rebuilt in 1901, has reopened its doors following a period of closure during the summer of 2025. The reopening marks a welcome revival for a landmark celebrated for its ornate terracotta façade and rich brewing heritage.

The new licensee, Peter Connolly, owner of the nearby Nortons music venue, has taken over management of the pub. Connolly’s passion for preserving cultural heritage was instrumental in restoring The Anchor, offeringnostalgic charm and renewed vitality to Digbeth’s local social scene.

“The Anchor is more than just bricks and mortar,” said Connolly, “it’s a part of the community’s soul, and we’re honoured to bring it back.” Patrons can expect a refreshed menu of traditional ales, a warm interior restoration and a calendar of events including live music nights and community gatherings.

The comeback of The Anchor comes amid a challenging time for UK pubs. Over 200 have closed in the first half of 2025, making its reopening all the more meaningful.
