Disruption Is Brewing is a modern craft brewery from Camberley in Surrey. It appeared in 2020 as the experimental arm of the long-established Ascot Brewing Company, and has since taken over as the main identity of the business – all brightly flavoured contemporary beer wrapped in an energetic, deliberately chaotic look.
Hop-forward beer is where they're strongest. The range leans heavily on soft pale ales, hazy IPAs and bigger double IPAs, usually loaded with tropical fruit, citrus and stone fruit. Aroma, juiciness and an easy mouthfeel take priority over the firm bitterness of old-school West Coast brewing.
Chaos More Chaos is the beer most people will know them for. It's a soft, expressive pale ale that shows off the approachable side of the brewery: intensely aromatic and thoroughly modern, but restrained enough to drink more than one. It's also picked up plenty of awards along the way and become their most recognisable release.
The wider Chaos family takes the same idea and turns everything up. Beers like Even More Chaos pile on the mango, tropical fruit and ripe hop character for the thick, exuberant experience you'd expect from a modern double IPA. Subtle they are not, but they show the brewery can go big without letting the alcohol take over completely.
It's not all haze, either. The catalogue has included lagers, dark beers, sours and odder limited releases – though even these detours tend to share the house preference for clear, immediate flavours over quiet complexity.
The stouts sit firmly at the indulgent end of things, with sweetness, chocolate and dessert-style additions usually winning out over dry roast and bitterness. The sours are just as direct – vivid fruit and a punchy acidity built for instant impact.
All of which makes their beers very easy to get along with. You never have to hunt for the point: mango tastes of mango, chocolate arrives by the ladle, and a sour makes itself known immediately. At its best, that clarity produces beers that are satisfying, entertaining and dead easy to understand.
There's an obvious risk of repetition. A steady stream of pale, hazy, tropical releases can start to blur together, especially when so many lean on similar combinations of Citra, Mosaic and the other usual suspects. If you're after proper bitterness, restrained malty styles or traditional cask, there's less here for you.
But then Disruption never claimed to be guardians of restraint. The name promises noise, colour and familiar styles pushed harder, and the branding delivers – bold illustrations, playful names and a visual language that's loud without collapsing into actual chaos.
The Camberley taphouse is a big part of who they are. Set on a large mezzanine above the brewing area, it runs around twenty keg lines mixing their own beers with guests, while pizza, quizzes, comedy, music and beer festivals make it more than just a brewery bar – it gives the place a genuine community presence.
The industrial setting works too. The tanks and kit stay in view, so you always feel like you're drinking at a working brewery rather than a themed imitation of one. It's spacious and informal, with enough going on to draw casual visitors as well as the beer obsessives.
Disruption may not have the national profile of British craft's biggest names, but they've built a confident identity and a reliable command of the styles they love. Their best beers are aromatic, colourful and generously flavoured, with no interest whatsoever in understatement.
If you like your pale ales soft, your IPAs saturated and your stouts indulgent, there's plenty here for you. Energetic, accessible and cheerfully excessive – a brewery whose apparent chaos is backed by rather more brewing control than the name lets on.
