The beautiful German town of Lübbecke has a long history of brewing, which has had a profound impact on the local culture. The family-run brewery, Privatbrauerei Ernst Barre, founded in 1842 by Ernst Johann Barre, is central to this legacy. The brewery employed 110 people in 2015, produced roughly 130,000 hectolitres of beer per year and brought in about €20 million in revenue.
A wide variety of high-quality beers, such as Barre Pilsener, Barre Dunkel, Barre Alt, Barre Weizen and seasonal offerings like Barre Maibock, are available from this brewery. In order to appeal to a diverse range of beer fans, they also provide non-alcoholic beverages and shandies.
An integral part of Lübbecke's cultural landscape, the Barre Brewery is more than just a brewery. It has been the site of the unique Bierbrunnenfest (Beer Fountain Festival) every year since 1954, during which thousands of litres of beer are given out to the public at no cost. In search of the beer fountain and other festival attractions, more than 100,000 people flock to this event annually.
The brewery provides guided tours that explore its history and the techniques used to make beer for anybody interested in the brewing art. Immerse yourself in the history of beer brewing from the 19th and 20th centuries as you explore the magnificent sandstone-and-brick edifice that includes an extensive exhibit of brewing apparatus and utensils. The tour ends with a sampling session at the nearby restaurant, where visitors can experience the brewery's products personally.
The Barre Brewery is just one part of Lübbecke's extensive beer culture. Tourists and residents alike can relax in one of the town's many beer gardens or traditional taverns while sampling beers made in the area. In a warm and inviting atmosphere, you may enjoy traditional German cuisine and drinks at places like Altes Brauhaus.
St. Andrew's Church, a Gothic hall church from the 12th century and the ruins of Reineberg Castle, which give a view of Lübbecke's mediaeval past, are two examples of the town's historical architecture that enhance the cultural attractions. In addition, the town's thriving cultural environment is enhanced by the many theatrical performances hosted by the Nettelstedt Open Air Stage, which was established in 1923.
Lübbecke is a must-visit for history buffs and craft beer lovers because to its seamless fusion of brewing heritage, cultural celebrations and historic allure.
