The beautiful German town of Lübbecke has a long history of brewing, which has had a profound impact on the local culture. The family-run brewery, Privatbrauerei Ernst Barre, founded in 1842 by Ernst Johann Barre, is central to this legacy. The brewery employed 110 people in 2015, produced roughly 130,000 hectolitres of beer per year and brought in about €20 million in revenue.

The brewery provides guided tours that explore its history and the techniques used to make beer for anybody interested in the brewing art. Immerse yourself in the history of beer brewing from the 19th and 20th centuries as you explore the magnificent sandstone-and-brick edifice that includes an extensive exhibit of brewing apparatus and utensils. The tour ends with a sampling session at the nearby restaurant, where visitors can experience the brewery's products personally.

The Barre Brewery is just one part of Lübbecke's extensive beer culture. Tourists and residents alike can relax in one of the town's many beer gardens or traditional taverns while sampling beers made in the area.
