City/Town Information

Ijmuiden, Netherlands

This town or city is in Netherlands. I've been there on 2 separate days, visited 2 pubs or places and had 10 beers from 9 different breweries, with an average strength of 6.67% ABV. These have given the place a score of 82.6% for overall beer quality.

Offering visitors a range of activities, IJmuiden, a town in the Netherlands, is a mix of industrial legacy and natural beauty. The town is most famously for its sizable port, which via the North Sea Canal acts as a portal to Amsterdam. Attractions like the IJmuider Zee-en Havenmuseum, where tourists may learn about the growth of the port and its function during World War II, clearly show the rich nautical history resulting from this important location. It's a lure for wind and water sports enthusiasts, and the raw, unspoiled coastal experience feature in the town's beaches. With its large dune areas, the adjoining Zuid-Kennemerland National Park enhances the attractiveness and is a wonderful place for hiking, riding, and animal viewing.

Regarding beer, IJmuiden features a small but interesting collection of bars and eateries where people can have a decent traditional beer. With its local businesses, the town itself clearly appeals to beer drinkers even though it might not be a craft beer paradise. For example, various bars along the seaside and in the town centre provide a variety of beers, including regional Dutch beers and foreign choices. With fresh seafood a mainstay on most menus, the local dining scene - highly impacted by the adjacent sea - offers the ideal accompaniment to these beers. Grand Café Staal and the waterfront eateries not only offer excellent cuisine but also a cosy environment to enjoy a drink.

(The main reason this is on my list of places is because we took a ferry out of there many years ago, and had several excellent beers in our cabin, while still technically there in the port.)
