About Mosaic

Mosaic is one of the big modern American hops, having become an immensely important variety across modern craft beer. It's been logged in hundreds of beers on HopHorizons, making it one of the most familiar and common hops. It’s no wonder that it’s become so popular, as Mosaic is a bold, expressive and versatile hop that can add a wide range of fruit, citrus, berry and resinous notes to a beer. Mosaic can be a patchwork of different flavours rather than a single, simple hop character, as its name suggests. Often associated with tropical fruit, citrus, blueberry, mango, stone fruit and pine, it can also add more subtle notes of herbs, resin, earthiness and dankness. In some beers it comes across as juicy and fruit-forward, in others it has a deeper, slightly savoury or resinous quality, giving the beer more complexity. Mosaic works well in modern pale ales, IPAs, double IPAs and hazy beers. It can add softness and depth. In hazy IPAs it tends to be mango, berry, citrus and ripe tropical fruit. It can show more pine, resin, grapefruit and dank herbal notes in cleaner or more bitter West Coast style beers. It is also one of those hops that can stand on its own in a single hop beer but it is just as often used withCitra, Simcoe, Nelson Sauvin, Galaxy, Idaho 7 or El Dorado. It is one of the defining hops of the modern craft beer world. It doesn’t always scream as loud as Citra does but it often adds layers and depth and intrigue. When we get Mosaic in a beer, we can usually expect something aromatic, fruit-led and slightly complex, with the potential for anything from bright tropical juiciness to darker berry, resin and dankness. It is one of the key recurring characters in the archive, with its huge presence across beer logging.
