My Personal Craft Beer Journey
I'm Neil. The past 23 years have seen me on an incredible trip discovering the varied and delicious world of craft beers and real ales. My love of unusual beers started in my teens when I explored real ale bars with my dad and learned about the rich beer scenes in Belgium and Amsterdam.
I have painstakingly recorded my beer-tasting exploits in personal logbooks since 2001, recording not only ratings and reviews but also the stories, labels and memories connected with every craft beer experience. Having spent more than 23 years researching beer worldwide, these volumes are evidence of my commitment.
My craft beer journey today has taken me to taste an amazing 25,000 unique beers from all around the world, and not least my home country of England. There are 800 unusual beers in my own collection, a liquid library of tastes and types. Hop Horizons acts as a digital extension of my love as I approach my 1000th beer logbook, sharing ideas, opinions and recommendations with other craft beer drinkers.
Come us on this hoppy adventure as we investigate the craftsmanship, tastes and histories behind craft beers from all around England and the world. The world of craft beer offers always fresh and interesting discoveries regardless of your level of experience with beer or just starting to explore beyond popular lagers!
My Mission with Hop Horizons
Hop Horizons is in its infancy, but development will continue over the coming months. My intention is to grow it into a community of worldwide beer raters. As it stands in its current format, it is more of an information portal for my own craft beer and real ale experiences, but this will evolve into a community hub of raters who can rate beers, brewery, or anything, and gain points, badges, etc. for the amount of depth of contributions. I intend some unique selling points:
- Emphasis on not just ratings, but informative reviews, but with the option for either/both for users.
- Rich publicly available beer statistics.
- The ability to rate/review just about anything to do with beer. (For example, rate a town itself based on its quality as a brewery town and/or a place to visit for craft beer.)
- Other unique features yet to be conceived, and I'm open to ideas!!
